Urban, like many working artists, grew up in a family where the arts were important. Her mother was a painter, and Simone painted throughout her youth. As a young adult, she took a job as a stylist for a commercial photography studio, painting in her spare time and showing in regional art fairs. She returned to school to complete her Fine Arts degree with a specialization in painting.
Her work shows a maturity not seen in younger artists. Her abstract expressionism features images concealed in overlays of light color which allows the viewer’s imagination to take charge, and her geometrics are composed of softened forms that blend a captivating pallet into a statement that both challenges and informs. Expect to see important works from this artist in the years to come.
