Yaksan Atassi

 

Born in Homs in Syria in 1950, ATASSI comes from a very different culture where plastic carpets, calligraphy, miniatures and urban space have also lined the bottom of its visual and nostalgic memory. 

At the age of twelve, his family enrolled in the Visual Arts Center recently opened in Homs where he remained until his baccalaureate. 

In 1969 Atassi  he studied at the of Fine Arts school in Damascus and graduated in 1974.  He then becomes a decorator and a teacher.


In September 1981, he arrived in Paris after receiving a scholarship for Fine Arts in Paris. This is his first confrontation with the Western world. This clash will be very important in his painting. 

1988 was a pivotal year in his career as a painter. In April he made to The Gallery's first solo exhibition in Paris, then in December, his second exhibition at the Grand Palais in MAC 2000. In October, he participated in the Great Room and Youth Today and New Realities.  He graduated of Fine Arts in Paris in December of the same year.  Therefore, and is officially installed as a painter in Paris. 

ATASSI is an artist who is broadly collected and exhibited in France, Switzerland, Syria, Jordan, Belgium both in private collections and the Jordan Museum and Museum Marzalles Marmande.
